Beaded 60s Silk Satin Dress
Victoria Royal Ltd creates beautiful detailed bead work.
This silk satin dress projects couture elegance. Zippers on sleeve cuffs and snapped placards exemplify dressmaker expertise. Two side pockets hide perfectly within the gathered skirt fabric.
Most relevant to the magnificence of this dress is the exorbitant bead work. Sequins, beads and crystal comprise the variety of sumptuous sparkles. A swirling oval shape dominates the bead pattern which runs throughout the dress. A larger faceted crystal stands out in the spill of beading.
Classic 60s Style
While the bead detail is an outstanding feature, the full skirt of the dress makes it stand out. Two inner slips generate this fullness. One is tonal satin and the other tulle. The model wears a nylon crinoline to maximize the dramatic skirt. It appears the dress was hemmed and could have at one time been full length gown. However, the cocktail length makes this dress very modern and versatile.
Since the silhouette is so classic, the dress dates to the late 50s or early 60s.
The label reads Victoria Royal Ltd British Crown Colony Hong Kong Size 8 Dry Clean Only.
The model wears a modern 4P.
32″ Bust (inner slip) while the outer shell measures 34″
26″ Waist
48″ Hips
The total length of the dress is 42″ from shoulder to hem bottom with the skirt 27″.
The sleeve measures 22″ from shoulder top to cuff. And, 17″ from underarm to cuff. The wrist is 7″ around. A zipper cleverly closes the sleeve at the wrist.
There are no significant stains to the dress. Slight fraying on the inside slip on the cup can be basted. The bead work is near perfect. A string of the smallest beads measuring 3″ has fallen off the dress. I am unsure of where they came from and will attach to the dress with purchase. Excellent condition.
