Elizabeth Arden gown projects hollywood perfection.
Elizabeth Arden was a Canadian born designer who moved to the US in the early 20th century. She contributed to modern fashion with both a fragrance and cosmetic line as well as a fashion clothing house. Notable designer to work in her firm was Oscar de la Renta.
There are two notable labels in this gown: “Elizabeth Arden New York” and “Malouf Design Perfect Negligee”. From the historical placement of this Arden label, it is evident that the garment was part of their 50’s collection. What is known about Malouf Design is that they were a high end lingerie designer who worked with notable designers of the day to create lush and opulent lounging wear. This beautiful velvet and mink collared piece is an example of such an item.
This was probably meant to be a holiday lounging gown. Beautifully luxurious, it can be worn today as formal attire. This piece is 38″ at the bust; 33″ at the waist; 40″ at the hips. It measures 54″ from the front neckline to the hem. The sleeves measure 23″ from shoulder to sleeve hem. It has a nicely casual right pocket and a 72″ X 1 3/4″ sash. The collar is 4″ wide all around and measure 34″ in circumference. The fur is in excellent shape. The velvet is in very good to excellent condition.
Reminiscent of the gloriously romantic 50’s, this gown would be the fashion answer to any special occasion.
