Major Actresses Go Vintage At Oscars 2018
It’s now been over a month since the 90th Academy Awards, yet for film and fashion lovers alike, these events tend to spark several months’ worth of conversation. We debate which films and individuals should have won, analyze which celebrities wore the best outfits and occasionally make note of fun trends that stood out. In that spirit, we’re taking a look back at a few leading ladies who went with vintage fashion at Oscars 2018.
Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts is an actress who’s actually been on the scene for quite some time. In fact she is the niece of the great Julia Roberts. Most might recognize her from the film We’re The Millers or the current TV show American Horror Story. Roberts wasn’t particularly deeply involved with the Oscars 2018. However, as a growing fixture in Hollywood, she made an appearance. And, as one fashion write-up stated, she looked like a vintage dream! Roberts wore a vintage-esque Prada dress and worked with Joico to complete the look with some strategic beauty efforts. It was a wonderful effort that had her looking fresh out of Old Hollywood.
Frances McDormand
McDormand, by contrast to Roberts, more or less dominated the Oscars spotlight. Listed among the top contenders for Best Actress heading in, she wound up winning the award for her outstanding work in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. McDormand got more attention for her refreshingly natural attitude about this sort of thing (you just can’t help but love an actor who isn’t caught up in his or her own celebrity). But, in the process she wore a heavy Valentino dress that certainly looked to be something out of a past era. Coupled with her somewhat typical no-makeup approach, it was a strikingly honest look.
Rita Moreno
Rita Moreno made the vintage statement of the 2018 Oscars. At the ceremony to present an award, the actress made the beautiful and amusing decision to wear the very same dress she wore when she won her own Best Actress Oscar – for her role in West Side Story in 1962! The dress was actually homemade. Complete with black opera gloves, it certainly took us back a few decades.
The Men Of Velvet
Finally, we have to give a shout out to some of the men at the 2018 Oscars as well. The popular decision to wear velvet suit jackets certainly felt vintage in its own way. Get Out star Daniel Kaluuya led the way, but there were several prominent actors embracing the trend.
