Black silk velvet has a sophistication with no substitute. Classic. Bold. Luxurious. It defined turn-of-the-century and Art Deco fashion. This regent velvet gown has ermine collar accents. Intricate eyelet scrolling in a floral motif pattern the front and back. A drop waist is cinched with a dramatic long sash. Worn over a slip or under dress, the sheath connects at the waist leaving an opening on the side.
The model is perfectly slender which allows the fabric to hang linearly. It measures 14″ across the shoulders with a 36″ bust, 32″ drop waist, 38″ hip. It is 52″ from shoulder to floor hem.
Dressmaker details include hook and eye closures and hand picked facings (pic). A stunning lining finishes the neck and side seams. (pic). The embroidery handwork is the art of this dress making it fashionably priceless.
The piece is in amazingly good quality. The only major imperfection is a tear 1″ up from the hemline on one side that runs about 14″ directly across the hem. It is shown with tape (pic). A simple re-hem would solve the problem as the rest of the velvet is in very good condition. Some attention to the hooks and eyes at the waist would be needed to strengthen the closures. A bakelite pin was used to cinch the waist (pic). This would take only minor hand sewing.
A beautiful 20’s piece with priceless qualities. Very good condition.
